Spanish Wells
Spanish Wells is a beautiful little island on the North end of the Eleuthera Islands some 65 miles East of the Berry Islands. This Island is very quaint with well manicured yards and brightly colored homes. The people are helpful, polite and very friendly. Many businesses are run out of people's homes such as the bait shop and ice cream parlor. We rented a golf cart and checked out this Island as well as Russel Island. The Sandbar, Buddha, and Shipwreck Bar and Grill were unique and a lot of fun.
Spanish Wells primary industry is fishing for Stone Crab and Spinney Lobster. Red Lobster is their primary customer. We ask to buy Stone Crab off the boat, but they couldn't sell it to us. An hour latter one of the fisherman came up to us and gave us about 6 lbs. of Stone Crab!!! This a must stop when doing the Bahamas.

Great Harbor -Hoffman Cay- Spanish Wells, Eleuthera, Bahamas
Our last night at Great Harbor we were treated to a local fisherman making cracked conch salad right in front of our boat, dinner served! ( see previous pic.). On Saturday the 26th we made a 36 mile run down to Hoffman Cay were we would anchor for 3 days on the Bahama Bank waiting for a weather window to head out into the Atlantic and cross to Spanish Wells. The weather forcast looked like 2 footers. Once we turned South on the Alantic side we hit 15 mile mph winds and 2-3 footers with the occasional 4, very sloppy and some what uncomfortable. We cut back around Hoffman Cay and in to the calm tourquis waters of the Bank. We spent 3 nights here, with a spectacular beach , a blue hole to hike to, and great views.
On Easter Sunday Tom and Julie on Sum Escape ( our buddy boat) along with new friends on Felix took the dinks 3.5 miles to Flo's Conch Bar for a late lunch of Lobster, Conch fritters, cold slaw, red beans and rice and a strong rum Punch. The drill is you call on the VHF radio about 3 hours a head of when you want to arrive. Flow's is on Little Harbor which there are only 4 residents on the most beautiful piece of land you can imagine. The other thing you need to concider is the passage to and from Flo's is only navigable at high and mid tides, even in a dingy. See the next set of pics of me towing the dingy.
On Tue. at 7:15 we headed East to Spanish Wells where we had mostly 2 footers at 3 seconds, a little sloppy. We truly were in the deep blue sea, at our deepest point we were in over 12,000 feet of water.
About 4 hours into to the 6 1/2 hr trip, I hooked up a 6 ft. White Marlin. The fight was intense and quick. The fish pealed of line like nothing I have ever experienced. I got most of the line back after watching 7 pr 8 spectacular jumps before he doubled back and got slack on the line and he snapped the 50 lb test like nothing. I will publish pics. Soon.
