On Saturday morning we left Banana Bay and headed up the Gulf side of the Keys some 38 miles to Plantation Yacht Basin and the Islamorada City Marina. What a great place with a pool, tennis courts, band shell, soccer and baseball fields. It also had Good showers and a clean laundry facility. The rate was 3 dollars a foot which included water and electricity. We hope to spend a Month here next year. Their monthly rate is not too bad. Islamorada is by far nicer than Marathon.
Easter Sunday was very different, first we could not find a church close enough by, and cabs are very pricey.( more on that latter) Our friend Dick had looked up a cousin he had not seen in 30 years and on Sunday afternoon we were all invited to attend a fund raiser for hospice. This took place at the Safari lounge , it is also called the dead animal bar because of all the African animal mounts on the wall. What a joint, they had live music and charged $5 dollars for a ham dinner and a buck for Jell-O shots. It turns out Dicks cousins husband was the past mayor of Islamorada. We were treated like visiting dignitaries, what a hoot. Great people and we had a great time.
Today we spent doing chores including getting Cody the most expensive doggy haircut we could imagine. Cab fare was $20 each way for a 15 minute ride. Cab , grooming, and tip came to $126!
We are leaving in the morning (weather permitting) for Key Largo and the John Pennycamp State Park Mooring field where we might stay for a week. We will post from there in 4 or 5 days.
